3/12/2012 To Err is to be AmazonIs it me or does anyone else think the pricing war between "store bots" at Amazon is ridiculous? Here's my logic on this subject:
-Amazon bots fight to give the best price until it goes below a dollar. -Now the book is deeply discount compared to the published price the author has placed on it. -And said author still gets the royalty price preset for every sale made. It would cost me more to buy my book with shipping through my publisher than paying under a dollar for a book with $3.99 flat shipping (if I buy in bulk). My publisher doesn't make as much money off me through my stocking needs and the Amazon bot loses ( I believe) by selling it at a loss. I am making this blog short because the discussion is expected to be overwhelming, I'm sure. Tell me your thoughts on authors using these bots to their fullest advantage. Smashwords is building a catalog of specially marked ebooks participating in this event and I am one of them. Every title will be offered at a discount from 25% to 100% (one-hundred percent off equals free for those having problems with fractions). It all starts with publishing the limited time catalog on Smashwords at one minute past midnight - March 4, 2012. Start enjoying the fun and discounts by stopping by for a few free reads or exploring a new author. What code do you use for my participating tile, you ask? Here it is - REW50 (between 2012-03-04 to 2012-03-10) 2/17/2012 Keep From Killing a Good ThingA giveaway has been initiated to herald in a new novel in the coming months. I will start another one of these when I have the second book in print. So, join the fun now and share the news. This is an undying challenge to see it go viral. That's why I called it the "undying" challenge - we need to keep it from falling into the muddy trenches of obscurity. 1/25/2012 Be Creative and Win!I've got something to share.
Win a $20 Amazon gift card February 29th by coming up with the best title for my second book. Details are at - http://www.facebook.com/DeadRights if you want a chance to win or to just vote. You ask, "Is that all it takes?" Yes. That's all. You submit a title that will be judged by the public and myself for the winning entry. So, stop by and throw your try in the hat. What could it hurt? The contest is free to enter! The public will be voting all month - starting thinking today. 1/5/2012 A Bid for SuccessI have just listed the novel on eBay to help drive traffic for the charity drive. I wonder if it will help or even make a difference on how many people see the month long fundraiser. Only time will tell.
12/31/2011 Raise the Roof. Fund a Charity. The sky is the limit! Starting tomorrow I am hosting a charity event online that will last all month long with a big blowout at the end with a giveaway. This is my first (and hopefully not my last) charity fundraiser. What is it about and how do I help? Well, I’m glad you asked. Visit my site and on January 27, 2012 find my table in Orlando, Fl. to help raise money for Parkinson’s research. During the month of January I hope to raise a minimum of $1000 through a raffle/giveaway. Buy a book (it will also double as a raffle ticket) and proceeds will be donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to forward progress towards a cure. By the end of the month I will pull two random names out of a bowl (via webcast on my site) and give each a $500 gift card.
Join the fight against Parkinson’s today. Here’s a little about why I find this cause worth the time and effort to support:
Spread the word. Watch the numbers rises here! Every dollar works towards a day without Parkinson’s. Make this your first New Year’s Resolution and donate today! 12/29/2011 Two Days and Counting! That's right, two more days until the new year and my first charity event. I hope to raise at least $1000 for the Michael J. Fox Foundation in the month of January, but please don't let that small number stop you from contributing more. They do so much towards Parkinson's research by dumping every dollar into projects combating the disease. If a project stalls out they move the money to one still making progress. That's why I am supporting such a great charity. They fund those that continue looking for ways to stop Parkinson's. Join me January 1st in a raffle to bring in contributions and have a chance at winning a $500 gift card. _There is a raffle starting soon. Details can be found at my book's website. $2 of every raffle ticket (book purchased) will enter the person into a drawing for a $500 Visa Gift Card and it will also raise needed funds for The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Only two will win. It begins 01-01-12, but you can start donating today! Follow the link to see how much has been raised so far here.Thank you for supporting a worthy cause!
11/6/2011 kickstarting a New BookI have created a project through KickStarter to help publish my second book. It is an effort to bring the novel to print and it will need your help. Please drop a copper in the coffer and/or share the link with other that might be interested so word can spread At this point I only have 39 days left to raise the funds for progressing to the next step. The publishing house I have chosen is AuthorHouse. As you can see by following the link, this can be very expensive. I hope this is a huge success and I can reach the level that offers a return policy. It will give my novel a better chance to sit on a bookshelf instead of the virtual one online as my first novel does now. Thank you for the support.
11/6/2011 A New Free Short SrotyI have entered a short story competition with the company Lulu. Find the story in ebook form here http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/locoduc and will soon be available on the Nook and Kindle. A store was opened called Panhandling Fantasy that offers just one design (my first book cover) for now. I am learning how to design other images to join the collection. Please visit both links to discover what's behind them.
